The summer round up, a reflection on the year so far
Half a year has passed and what a great six months it’s been. We’ve had the signing of new builds in Peru, Crowne Plaza opened its doors in Colombia and we’ve been fortunate enough to receive nominations and won awards that we should all be very proud of.
Not only do the awards highlight our winning efforts at IHG but they’re a great reason to stop for a second, take stock and reflect on all the great thigs we have already achieved so far this year.
What better way to take a minute to celebrate some success than with a round-up of some of our best bits, take a look;
January – Our Trend Report was released which highlighted the uncompromising nature of today’s customer. The report recognised that, in a landscape constantly changing through advances in technology, customers want the best of both worlds – not either/or. In addition to this we talked best practices that address customer expectations.
March – Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants was Ranked #14 in the prestigious ‘100 Best Companies to Work For list’ by Fortune Magazine which, was a 6 place increase on last year (#20 last year). Employees love the support for diversity, flexible work schedules, the distinct lack of hierarchy, and promote-from-within culture.
April – IHG opens its doors to two new fabulous hotels including Brisbane Holiday Inn Express & the HUALUXE Zhangjiakou add hotel name, Greater China which marked the 300th opening for that region.
May – IHG were recognised by UK Graduates among many categories for best place to work in the industry. The Job Crowd UK recognises and ranks companies each year for Early Career opportunities. This year we ranked across four award categories! They included;
- Winner in the Best Training Category
- Winner in the Best Benefits Category
- Ranked No 1 in Hospitality, Leisure & Tourism
- Ranked No 3 out of 100 for overall best graduate programme
As well as this ranking third out of a hundred for overall best grad programmes was the best result we’ve ever seen in this category. In 2015 we were voted 29th, and last year 13th, what an amazing achievement!
June – You might remember the marking of Kimpton De Witt’s arrival in Amsterdam back in June this year? Hotel team members celebrated Kimpton’s first hotel opening in Europe and outside the Americas by spreading some floral love across Dam Square, Central Station, Miseumplein and more.
The hotel was fully transformed by Kimpton’s bold and playful design inspired by Dutch heritage. You won’t miss the spirited edge, just look out for the ‘living wall’ of vibrant florals and botanicals. The late 20th century architecture combined with modern luxury makes this a real elegant experience steeped in history.
With 274 rooms including 9 signature suites, a modern fitness centre and a complimentary all-day tea station in the lobby - you really can come to relax, work out, or simply enjoy a pot of tea in an inspired surrounding.
July – Richard Solomons stepped down as CEO on 30 June and will retire from IHG on 30 August. He’ll be succeeded by Keith Barr, a member of IHG’s Executive Committee who has spent nearly 17 years with IHG, most recently as Chief Commercial Officer. Keith will take up his new position and become a member of IHG’s Board on 1st July 2017.
So there we have it, some great achievements and exciting announcements among many others for IHG for the first half of 2017! If you’re a looking for your next big leap into hotel life and would like to receive the same recognition while being a part of something bigger then why not view all our latest opportunities here!
